BG Productions Back Full Force in 2018 with Diverse Films in the Lineup

"As long as may budget, gagawa ako. Pag walang budget, hindi ako gagawa," said movie producer, philantrophist, and business woman Ms. Baby Go.

Obviously, business has been doing well since there are at least three films already in the production or pre-production phase namely Almost A Love Story (Louie Ignacio), Latay (Ralston Jover), and Angelina Lumunsad (Mel Chionglo). The teasers of the first two films were shown to the members of the press last January 8 at the Marco Polo Hotel, which also coincided with the birthday celebration of BG Production's resident line producer Dennis Evangelista.

Almost A Love Story brings back the loveteam of Derbie - talented young stars Derick Monasterio and Barbie Forteza. Crucial parts of the film where shot in Italy, and the movie was produced in cooperation with Salento Cinema. It will have a screening in Italy as well as a local mainstream release. The film also stars Lotlot de Leon, Matet de Leon, and Ana Capri.

The films tells the story of a girl who flies to Italy in search of true love, possibly finding something just in between. Derrick, who plays the role of a painter, actually tried his hand paintong Van Gogh's Starry Night recently and it's actually for sale. He does plan to make more art.

"Ang sa akin kasi, gusto ko muna ipaint yung mga feelings ko sa buhay, kung ano yung outlook ko sa buhay, like, meron akong pinaplan ipaint ngayon about showbiz world, na kung nakikita kami ng mga tao, hindi kami ganon," said Derick

In Philippine slang, we jokingly refer to husbands who are submissive to their wives as Andres de Saya (a play on the term "under the saya" or "under the skirt") or takosa ("takot sa asawa" or "scared of the wife"). However, being a battered husband is no laughing matter, the last known visual media tackling this topic was a segment from the film Separados, a 2014 Cinemalaya film entry which starred Erik Santos as the battered husband and Iwa Moto as the abuser.

This time, Allen Dizon is shedding off his alpha male image and diving headfirst in a role surrounded by a mantle of silence and mystery in Latay. Those who are updated with he and his manager's Facebook account will remember that he was in full woman's garb for a scene shot during the Aguman Sanduk Festival last New Year's day. For years, Allen has refused a number of roles involving dressing up as a member of the oposite sex but this time he decided to brave the challenge as he knows this will be for a bigger cause: to give voice to men silently suffering for fear of social stigma. Republic Act 9262 specifies protection from abuse for only women and children, and we are left wondering what happens in this country when men gets abused by women attackers.

Up for consideration as Allen Dizon's wife in the film are Alessanda Rossi and Lovi Poe. Like his last film with Ralston which is Bomba, this social drama will be submitted to international film festivals upon completion.

Being considered as the lead actress in the Joel Lamangan project titled Angela Lumunsad is Kapuso actress Heart Evangelista. She plays a woman who was mistaken for a teacher. She will be caught in a romance between a soldier and an NPA member who will both fall for her. The movie speaks about the importance of education and this early there are plans to show the movie in schools. Also being prepared is an environmental project titled Maruming Hangin that has anti-pollution as its theme. BG Productions is planning to field this satirical comedy to the MMFF 2018.

Also in the works is the mainstream project of Mel Chionglo who is currently undergoing negotiations with Lualhati Bautista for a script based on her book Sixty In the City. Is the right vehicle for Ms. Charo Santos whom BG Productions CEO Baby Go wants to work with?

Director Louie Ignacio’s movie titled School Bus intended for the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, will start filming in March. If ever the movie is selected as entry, this will be the first time that BG Productions will join the prestigious independent film festival.

Ms. Baby Go also started table talks regarding another Louie Ignacio project about an “unano wrestler” and he wants no less than the only and only superstar Nora Aunor to play the mother of the midgets.

Also lined up for this year are movies from Jason Paul Laxamana, Neal Tan and Joey Romero. Ms. Baby Go is happy to doing a wide variety of projects under her film outfit.  It is also her dream to do a movie with Star for all season Ms. Vilma Santos and to have her own cinema where she can screen the movies that she produces.  She also has an offer to co-produce a Hollywood film she's set to fly to the United States for a meeting.

“It is my passion to produce movies. I also help in the marketing. Thank God, we are able to sell the broadcast rights of our film so the money keeps on rolling, enabling us to continue making movies. I am happy I am able to keep my passion alive,” said Ms Baby Go.
