BUM Paints the Town Red and Blue with Pepsi Capsule Collection Collaboration

Once upon a time in 1986, inside a Seattle garage, a streetwear fashion label named B.U.M. Equipment was born. Dubbed, by the LA Times as "one of the most successful young men's sportswear brands in California fashion history", it expanded its market to the Philippines in 1993. Some of its current celebrity endorsers are Andrea Brillantes, Miguel Tanfelix, and Bianca Umali.

Pepsi, on the other hand, is more than a century old because its creation dates back to 1893. Venturing into fashion as well as collaborating with existing clothing brands is not new for the company. In fact, it participated thrice in the Shanghai fashion week held last October 2017 by teaming up with the designers Just for Tee, Content, and Su Guang Yu. The beverage brand also collaborated with London based fashion label DB Berdan a couple of times including a Mercedes Benz fashion show in Istanbul and a design of a Katy Perry costume.

The partnership will reflect BUM's core silhouettes and trendy looks with Pepsi youthful appeal. The limited-edition line is all about self-expression and the ‘Live for Now’ moments.

#BUMXPepsi Limited Collection is based on the iconic color palette and logos of both brands—BUM and Pepsi; fused design elements and street style that can draw that youthful appeal. The line consists of t-shirts, jogger pants and shorts and outerwear, as well as caps and bags.
On the eighth day of June this year, the designs were unveiled via a fashion show. They can be purchased in BUM Boutiques and select department stores nationwide.

BINONDO: A TSINOY MUSICAL SHEDS MUSIC AND RHYTHM TO THE PLIGHT OF CHINESE-FILIPINOS

Synergy 88 Digital, Rebecca Chuaunsu Film Production (RCFP), and Fullhouse Asia Production Studios, Inc. present an original musical about Chinese-Filipinos titled “Binondo: A Tsinoy Musical”; directed by Joel Lamangan, written by Ricky Lee with Gershom Chua, and Ejay Castro Deldoc.

The dates of performances are from June 29 to July 8, 2018.

Venue: The Theatre at Solaire.

The Story
The true story came from the memories of the creative producer, Rebecca Chuaunsu, who can still recall when a Chinese professor shared the story of his eternal love for a Filipina. This story moved her and as a Chinese-Filipina herself, it has always been a dream to have a theatrical narrative that would give a fleshed-out representation of the plight of Chinese-Filipinos. Her first theater mentor, Joel Lamangan became one of the keys in staging this dream, as Ricky Lee also came into the picture when he eagerly accepted to write the book and lyrics of the musical. As a Chinese-Filipino, Ricky Lee admitted that he had noticed the scarcity of literary pieces that highlight the deeper context of their struggles.

“BINONDO: A Tsinoy Musical” tells the story of how LILY, a Filipina night club singer in pre-Martial Law Manila, and AH TIONG, a mainland Chinese scholar returning to Cultural Revolution-era Beijing, embark on a journey of great love
and heartbreak that begins one fated, moon-lit night during the Mid-Autumn Festival of 1971 in the heart of Manila’s Chinatown.

LILY, a hopeless romantic, finally finds her unlikely great love in AH TIONG, a cynic about destiny, during this night of one of the fullest moons ever recorded and on the birthdate of Ge Lao, the Old Man under the Moon or the Chinese Deity
of Love. Vying for LILY’s heart as well is CARLOS, a local Chinese childhood friend of hers who is finally pushed to confront his feelings for her with the arrival of this stranger set on stealing her heart. A triangle centered on different ways of loving and receiving love forms the crux of this story.

Spanning two decades (the 1970s and 1990s respectively) and two countries (China and Philippines), the musical explores how love can triumph amidst racial prejudice and political turmoil, years of waiting and absence; only to grow deeper and change the lives of everyone who dares to put their hearts on the line.

The Team

The musical prides in featuring the country’s multi-talented artists from film, television, and theater namely Shiela Valderrama Martinez and Carla Guevara Laforteza (Lily); Arman Ferrer and David Ezra (Ah Tiong); Floyd Tena and Noel Rayos (Carlos); Mariella Laurel (Jasmine); Ashlee Factor (Ruby); Ima Castro (Mrs. Dela Rosa); Jennifer Villegas dela Cruz (Lourdes); Kay Balajadia
Liggayu (Mrs. Chua); Dondi Ong (Mr. Chua); Russell Magno (Mr. Zhang); Elizabeth Chua (Mrs. Zhang); Jim Pebanco, Lorenz Martinez. Khalil Kaimo, Ellrica Laguardia, Rhapsody Li & Tuesday Vargas (Chorus); Jonel Mojica and Joseph Billeza (Ge Lao); Philip Deles and Ivana Villanueva (Swing).

The artistic team of BINONDO, A TSINOY MUSICAL is composed of the following: Joel Lamangan (Direction), Rebecca Chuaunsu (Original Story / Creative and Line Producer), Ricky Lee, Gershom Chua, and Eljay Castro
Deldoc (Book and Lyrics), Von De Guzman (Music Composition and Musical Direction), Douglas Nierras (Choreography), Joey Nombres (Lighting Design),

Ai Ai and Ex Battalion Bring Their A-Game to Viva

Screen and television star Ai Ai de las Alas has agreed to topbill a movie for Viva Films and she has brought along as co-stars her hot hitmaking charges, the Ex Battalion (Ex B). The film is set to start filming in July. It is written by Mel del Rosario and will be directed by Dado Lumibao. At the same time, the members of Ex B will be getting ready for their first major concert to be produced by Viva.

The movie marks the return of Ai Ai to Viva Films, where she made her early appearances as a young actress doing doing roles with short screen times. Eventually, she went on to become the country's leading comedienne on television and on the big screen with landmark box office hits like Ang Tanging Ina, Sisterakas, My Bebe Love, and others. She ventured into a new side of the entertainment business early this year when she became the manager of Ex Battalion.

The Ai Ai and Ex B film also marks the acting debuts of the members of this talented hiphop collective, which has introduced a new type of sound to the local rap scene. Being a collective means all the members are solo artists who can work either together or independently. It was formed by Bossx1ne six years ago and now includes the following rappers: Emcee Rhenn, King Badger, Skusta Clee, James Brando, and Flow G.

Ex B has their first break with Need You two years ago. This was followed by Tell Me, and then No Games which made the group part of the top ten of the Philippine hit charts. Late in 2017, Ex Battalion released what would become their biggest hit to date, Hayaan Mo Sila. The upbeat song which has dominated airplay, social media, streaming, and downloading sites these past months is a soft and engaging rumination on having a relationship while being surrounded by meddlers.

Watch out for this major motion picture event where Viva will bring together drama, comedy, and the latest in Pinoy music.

WORDS FROM CARLOS CELDRAN ABOUT THE SHOW

“Livin’ La Vida Imelda”, my one-man performance about Manila and Imelda Marcos is coming back to Poblacion, Makati for a series of shows directed by theater icon, Jamie Wilson and produced in cooperation with MusicArtes.
“Living La Vida Imelda” is a multi-media monologue of musings about former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos and memories of life in 1970s Manila. We won’t talk about shoes very much but we’ll ponder over issues such as state sanctioned kitsch, hierarchies in human psychology and human rights, and the importance of winning beauty pageants in a developing nation. It will be a night of gossip, disco music, tragic facts and anecdotes so absurd that it’s got to be true.
Come to Mirror Studio and descend into the rabbit hole called Philippine history with me. Have a drink. Have a laugh. I’ll go a little mad and a little off topic but I assure you, the journey will be fun, funny, and perhaps even educational.
