Eugene Domingo and Sherry Lara is the Powerhouse Tandem for Dark Play 'night Mother

Eugene Domingo aka Uge described herself as someone who is generally cheerful and has never experienced depression. However, that didn't stop her from taking on the role of Jessie, a woman who has her mind set on suicide. Playing her mother Thelma is theater veteran Sherry Lara.

The play is 'night, Mother, penned by Marsha Norman, who also tackled suicide in her Broadway musical The Red Shoes. An interesting trivia is that both are made 10 years apart, the former in 1983 and the latter in 1993.

The plot:
A supposedly normal evening in the mother-daughter household is shattered when Jessie announces to her mother Thelma that she plans to kill herself before the night is over. The play happens in real time. Over the course of 90 minutes, Thelma desperately works to convince her daughter that life is worth living.

Soxie Topacio was originally tapped to direct the play but Melvin Lee took over after his passing.  "Let it be about conversations that we’ve had or should have had with our loved ones [because] through conversations come clarity, and we need clarity in our feelings and thoughts to steer us away from darkness,” said Lee.
The adaptation by Ian Lomongo contains bits of dark humor not because Uge is known more as comedian, but because he wants to stay faithful to the original material but at the same time make sure the audience members are attentive. The play runes for 90 minutes without any intermission because it the mother and daughter conversation happens in real time. vUge even joked that she will greet the audience as Dora from Kimmy Dora after every show.
Her previous stage performance, as well as her last play with PETA, was Bona, where she also played a mentally disturbed individual.

On the other hand, Lara's notable recent works were for her roles in Care Divas (2017), Palasyo ni Valentin (2015), and Maliw (2009/2012). One of her biggest roles was as Paulina Salas Escobar in Death and the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman in the nineties.
Peta’s ‘night, Mother runs at Peta Theater Center at 5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City from Feb. 2-March 3. Call 09276035913 or 8919999, visit www.ticketworld.com. ph.

New Cast Members of Himala Isang Musikal Led By Aicelle Santos are Ready to Take on the Classic

The upcoming production of Himala deliberately features a completely new cast in order for it to reach newer audiences, and finding an actress who was ready to be Elsa wasn't easy.

"It's a process, I take it day by day," Santos says. "I get to discover her in every rehearsal and find the inner Elsa in me." To become Elsa means exploring the universal human desire to find resolution, solace, and inner peace, and what it's like to resist temptation in the form of a quick solution, however absurd it actually is. Ultimately, it takes innate talent to act and sing, and be able to step up to the challenge of starring in Himala. Call that a miracle if you will.

Leading the stage with Santos are Kakki Teodoro as Nimia, Neomi Gonzales as Chayong, Sandino Martin as Pilo, and Bituin Escalante as her mother Nanay Saling. The outsider filmmaker Orly will be played by David Ezra, while Floyd Tena and Omar Uddin will play the roles of priest and child respectively. Joining the cast are Jenny Villegas, Glenda Liao, Cristy Peredo, Matel Patayon, Sigrid Balbas, Hazel Maranan, Raflesia Bravo, Roxy Aldiosa, EJ Pepito, Joshua Cabiladas, Kits Falcis, Roby Malubay, Gary Junsay, Mano Domingo, Neil Tolentino, and Jasper Jimenez.

Himala: Isang Musikal is an original musical with book and lyrics by Ricky Lee, and music and lyrics by Vince de Jesus, with direction and set design by Ed Lacson Jr., musical arrangement by Jed Balsamo, lighting design by Barbie Tan-Tiongco, and costume design by Carlo Pagunaling.

Heading the production team are executive producer Santi Santamaria, Anna Santamaria as operations director, sab Jose as marketing & PR director, Erwin Romulo as creative consultant, Maine Manalansan as design director, Jonjon Martin as PR manager, Perky Parong as production manager, and Pat Gascon as stage manager.

Ricky Lee and Vincent de Jesus' Himala: Isang Musikal will be showing at the Power MAC Center Spotlight, Circuit Makati from February 10 to March 4, 2018. GMA Network ushers 2018 with star-studded concert “3 Stars, 1 Heart”

GMA Network is starting 2018 with an exceptional musical treat as it brings to the regions a ground-breaking concert series featuring the powerhouse trio of Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Asia’s Balladeer Christian Bautista, and Asia’s Pop Sweetheart Julie Anne San Jose.

Dubbed “3 Stars, 1 Heart”, this unique musical experience is a collaboration of GMA Regional TV (GMA RTV) with GMA Entertainment Content Group for a concert series in the regions. The first show will be held on January 20, 2018, 8 p.m. at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino, as part of the celebration of the Sinulog Festival.

Regine, Christian, and Julie Anne will showcase their prowess in their respective genres in one spectacular onstage experience.

Expect the Songbird to mesmerize the crowd by singing the biggest and most-vocally challenging hit songs. Complementing Regine’s glamorous performance is a fashion show featuring a long gown collection of a local fashion designer.

Known to be a master of sweeping his audience off their feet, Christian will surely charm his way through a mix of classic and current love songs that everyone could relate to. And to celebrate Cebuano music, Christian will be joined by a local singer in one of his numbers.

Julie Anne, on the other hand, will give Cebuanos a show par excellence with her powerful song and dance renditions. Performing with her are Cebu’s homegrown hip hop dancers.

“It’s not every day that we get to watch three of Asia’s most-sought performers in one show,” says GMA RTV Vice President and Head Oliver Amoroso. “We have no less than our Asia’s Songbird joining us for a night of music and fashion. Then we are treated by Christian’s swoon-worthy performance and Julie Anne’s amazing song and dance numbers. This is truly a wonderful treat that our Kapusong Cebuanos should not miss. And this is only the beginning. As part of giving back to our loyal Kapuso all over the Philippines, expect more legs of “3 Stars, 1 Heart” soon.”

“We are excited to begin the new year with this big event in collaboration with GMA Regional TV. We partnered with Regional TV to be able to reach more people in the regions through live concerts,” says GMA Vice President for Business Development Department III Darling de Jesus Bodegon. “We decided to put Regine, Christian, and Julie Ann together because this combination has never been done before.  They share the same experience, with all of them coming from different talent shows. This is an interesting mix as well since they can do different genres but also blend together,” she adds.

After Cebu, “3 Stars, 1 Heart” will have another leg on April 14 at the CSI Stadia, Dagupan City during the Bangus Festival. (30)

BG Productions Back Full Force in 2018 with Diverse Films in the Lineup

"As long as may budget, gagawa ako. Pag walang budget, hindi ako gagawa," said movie producer, philantrophist, and business woman Ms. Baby Go.

Obviously, business has been doing well since there are at least three films already in the production or pre-production phase namely Almost A Love Story (Louie Ignacio), Latay (Ralston Jover), and Angelina Lumunsad (Mel Chionglo). The teasers of the first two films were shown to the members of the press last January 8 at the Marco Polo Hotel, which also coincided with the birthday celebration of BG Production's resident line producer Dennis Evangelista.

Almost A Love Story brings back the loveteam of Derbie - talented young stars Derick Monasterio and Barbie Forteza. Crucial parts of the film where shot in Italy, and the movie was produced in cooperation with Salento Cinema. It will have a screening in Italy as well as a local mainstream release. The film also stars Lotlot de Leon, Matet de Leon, and Ana Capri.

The films tells the story of a girl who flies to Italy in search of true love, possibly finding something just in between. Derrick, who plays the role of a painter, actually tried his hand paintong Van Gogh's Starry Night recently and it's actually for sale. He does plan to make more art.

"Ang sa akin kasi, gusto ko muna ipaint yung mga feelings ko sa buhay, kung ano yung outlook ko sa buhay, like, meron akong pinaplan ipaint ngayon about showbiz world, na kung nakikita kami ng mga tao, hindi kami ganon," said Derick

In Philippine slang, we jokingly refer to husbands who are submissive to their wives as Andres de Saya (a play on the term "under the saya" or "under the skirt") or takosa ("takot sa asawa" or "scared of the wife"). However, being a battered husband is no laughing matter, the last known visual media tackling this topic was a segment from the film Separados, a 2014 Cinemalaya film entry which starred Erik Santos as the battered husband and Iwa Moto as the abuser.

This time, Allen Dizon is shedding off his alpha male image and diving headfirst in a role surrounded by a mantle of silence and mystery in Latay. Those who are updated with he and his manager's Facebook account will remember that he was in full woman's garb for a scene shot during the Aguman Sanduk Festival last New Year's day. For years, Allen has refused a number of roles involving dressing up as a member of the oposite sex but this time he decided to brave the challenge as he knows this will be for a bigger cause: to give voice to men silently suffering for fear of social stigma. Republic Act 9262 specifies protection from abuse for only women and children, and we are left wondering what happens in this country when men gets abused by women attackers.

Up for consideration as Allen Dizon's wife in the film are Alessanda Rossi and Lovi Poe. Like his last film with Ralston which is Bomba, this social drama will be submitted to international film festivals upon completion.

Being considered as the lead actress in the Joel Lamangan project titled Angela Lumunsad is Kapuso actress Heart Evangelista. She plays a woman who was mistaken for a teacher. She will be caught in a romance between a soldier and an NPA member who will both fall for her. The movie speaks about the importance of education and this early there are plans to show the movie in schools. Also being prepared is an environmental project titled Maruming Hangin that has anti-pollution as its theme. BG Productions is planning to field this satirical comedy to the MMFF 2018.

Also in the works is the mainstream project of Mel Chionglo who is currently undergoing negotiations with Lualhati Bautista for a script based on her book Sixty In the City. Is the right vehicle for Ms. Charo Santos whom BG Productions CEO Baby Go wants to work with?

Director Louie Ignacio’s movie titled School Bus intended for the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, will start filming in March. If ever the movie is selected as entry, this will be the first time that BG Productions will join the prestigious independent film festival.

Ms. Baby Go also started table talks regarding another Louie Ignacio project about an “unano wrestler” and he wants no less than the only and only superstar Nora Aunor to play the mother of the midgets.

Also lined up for this year are movies from Jason Paul Laxamana, Neal Tan and Joey Romero. Ms. Baby Go is happy to doing a wide variety of projects under her film outfit.  It is also her dream to do a movie with Star for all season Ms. Vilma Santos and to have her own cinema where she can screen the movies that she produces.  She also has an offer to co-produce a Hollywood film she's set to fly to the United States for a meeting.

“It is my passion to produce movies. I also help in the marketing. Thank God, we are able to sell the broadcast rights of our film so the money keeps on rolling, enabling us to continue making movies. I am happy I am able to keep my passion alive,” said Ms Baby Go.

Glenda Victorio, a Story of Triumph via Charcoal

Almost half a year ago, precisely last July 16 of 2017, 20-year old Glenda Victorio shared how she became a multimillionaire at such a young age. This millennial entrepreneur is not ashamed that her mother used to be a guest relations officer, or that she had to work as a virtual assistant since she was 12 years old, a job she did inconspicuously since she wa snot fo legal age yet.

She knew that she was underprivileged compared to many, so she really worked hard and was an honor student. A native of Morong, Rizal, she once tried her hand in entering show business, patiently enduring the long hours of lining for reality shows like Pinoy Big Brother. However, destiny had other plans for her.

She got pregnant and then married at a young age but she didn't throw her dream of becoming rich away. When online selling became the trend, she rode it and spent countless hours growing her customer base, at the same time, being consistently part of the Top 10 real estate agents in Morong.

Joined by her husband Mac, both of them would travel all the way to Divisoria to purchase good they can retail online. The stress and lack of sleep took a toll on Glenda's skin, and she developed a lot of pimples. But, this would actually pave the way to the affluence she has been dreaming about.

She did an experimented with her candle supplier and together, they formulated a Black Charcoal Soap and Glenda herself was the test subject. It actually worked and when she posted her before and after photos online, they went viral and orders came pouring it.

Rated K hosted by Korina Sanchez eventually got wind of her story and decided to feature her. After that, people from different parts of the country were curious to try out her products and she even got more orders. People signed up to be distributors and franchisees so her profit grew even more.

Her original line Brilliant Skin Essentials now has a cousin, Briscilla Cosmetics. During the awarding ceremony held last January 7 of 2018 at Novotel Araneta, this new product line was launched. Two of the most exciting items are the Briscilla Matte Lip Lacquer for gradient lips, a sweet-smelling matte lip cream that dries instantly and will stay on even if you ate meals with lots of oil, and Briscilla Eyebrow Air Cushion, with a dual brush that's going to give you perfect brows in just three or four swipes.

Celebrities like Xian Lim, Korina Sanchez, Mark Herras, and Boobay graced the event.

A Better Black Maria Cinema in 2018

But actually, the correct way to say it is Black Maria(h), like the singer Mariah Carey.

Back in 1893, Thomas Edison built the first production studio in West Orange, New Jersey. Black Maria Cinema was named as such to pay tribute to the abovementioned place widely known as America's First Movie Studio.

This establishment bears a long history as well. It was formerly known as the SQ Film Laboratories, the last production studio in Asia to take its last bow after having processed countless film negatives for 40 years. Angelo Santos who used to manage it currently oversees the cinema as well, together with his wife Sarah and his sister Pat. The Santos-Quilatan (SQ) clan has two other related businesses, Santiago's Cafe, a homey restaurant alongside the movie theater building, which will soon branch out in selling pasta, tomato sauce, and other food items. Black Maria Print Shop, which churns out calling cards, tarpaulins, posters, and other similar advertising materials, are located inside the theater.

This new player among local microcinemas boasts of a digital projection with 2K resolution and a 20-foot silver-white screen. The 30-seater theater located at 779 San Rafael Street, SQ Film Laboratories Building, Plain view, Mandaluyong, will reopen sometime in January. The facility will be upgraded to accommodate even more audience members and improve functionality. Thus, the films scheduled for December 2017 will be moved to January 2018.

However, the digital film laboratory which handles film post-production, commercials, music videos, and trailers, and other associated businesses will continue on as usual.

Among the films they have screened are the Cinema One Originals 2017 EntriesRespeto, Maestra, Broken HallelujahSmaller and Smaller Circles, Ang Larawan, Loving Vincent, and Satan's Slaves.
