JOHN LLOYD CRUZ, TURKS ENDORSEMENT AFTER TWO YEARS, SIGN OF COMING BACK TO THE LIMELIGHT?

Photos and videos of matinee idol John Lloyd Cruz have been surfacing after being on hiatus from show business since 2017.

Cruz, one of the most bankable actors of the Philippine cinema and very effective endorser once again proved that his fans are still waiting for his return. In a teaser video, which lasted only for a few seconds and only shows the back shot of Cruz’s, and posted in the Facebook page of the number one selling shawarma Turks a few weeks ago had been viewed 3.2M times, shared almost 800 times and gained a huge number of comments.

Without any clue in that teaser video, his fans already assumed that it was him in the video. Actress Bea Alonzo on her Instagram also posted a screenshot of that teaser video, which garnered almost a million likes.

This Monday morning Turks finally revealed in the 1-minute and 17 seconds video of Cruz showing the actor walking through different destinations, which somehow depicts Cruz’s sojourn. The video is very simple, yet there’s drama the way it was created, and in a very subtle shot, he stopped and took a bite of a Turks pita donner.

The rugged look of Cruz in the Turks video titled Ang Pagbabalik is way too far from his guy-next-door image and a lot of people in the industry are asking if this signals his return to the limelight. His fans are still wondering about the life he’s been living since his hiatus.

According to Turks president Gem L. Zenarosa that during the course of his talks with Cruz, they never talked anything about his showbiz career or plans. He added that he got Mr. Cruz as the latest ambassador of Turks because of his great confidence working with Cruz.

“I am really grateful that John Lloyd trusts our company, he is a brilliant and very creative young man. Aside from acting we have discovered some of his remarkable talents,” Zenarosa stressed.

The Ang Pagbabalik according to Zenarosa is actually about Turks Small Pita Doner, which will be available again in all its branches.

“John Lloyd is the best endorser for this because like him, despite his absence in the showbusiness for a couple of years, the warmth and love of his fans for him never dwindles.
With our Small Pita Doner we believe that our customers will be happy to know that it is back in our menu,” Zenarosa explained.

Just like Cruz who is seen to have a different image since he last appeared in the big screen, a clear indication that the actor is recreating himslef and exploring different grounds, Turks is also doing the same thing to keep its customers excited whenever they visit a branch.

In  time for the release of Cruz' endorsement video, Turks also released to the market its newest offering --- Turks Rice Bowl, which is a complete meal. You can choose beef or chicken for your rice topping, and it is priced at P50. The Small Pita Doner on the other hand, is priced at P35.

"To keep up with the demands of our customers, Turks continues to improve our menu and offerings to satisfy the discriminating taste of our loyal patrons," Zenarosa stressed.

John Lloyd Cruz now joins the roster of endorsers of Turks such as Piolo and Inigo Pascual.

Jodi Sta. Maria vs. Bela Padilla in "Sino ang May Sala"

Two mothers with opposing versions of the truth will take a stand in the name of love and justice in ABS-CBN’s newest primetime crime-drama series “Sino Ang Maysala?: Mea Culpa,” which premieres on Monday (April 29).

Starring in the series and returning to primetime is award-winning actress Jodi Sta. Maria, who plays Fina, a hardworking farmer who hopes to give her family a better future, and later on looks for and fights for her missing child.

She clashes with Bela Padilla, who plays a lawyer who covers up a crime, along with Tony Labrusca, Kit Thompson, Sandino Martin, Ivana Alawi, and Ketchup Eusebio.

Their real-life nightmare begins when Juris (Bela), Andrei (Tony), Gaylord (Sandino), Greco (Kit), Lolita (Ivana), and Bogs (Ketchup) travel to Baguio to celebrate after passing the bar.

The road trip takes a disastrous turn that will compromise their future – they get into an accident that will separate Fina from her child, while Juris takes on adopting and raising the little girl.

They keep their dark secret hidden in the grave up until construction unearths a rotting corpse. Because of the news, Fina gets her hopes up, starts to believe that her daughter is still alive, and embarks on a search for her.

The controversial case then sparks a dispute between the two mothers – Fina believes her daughter is with Juris, who, in turn, defends herself against the accusation in order to keep the child she has raised and come to love.

Does Fina stand a chance to obtain justice against the five successful lawyers? Will she ever be reunited with her daughter? How long will Juris and her friends hide the truth?

Also part of the “Sino Ang Maysala?: Mea Culpa” cast are veteran actors Agot Isidro, Janice de Belen, Ayen Munji-Laurel, Jay Manalo, Allan Paule, and Boboy Garovillo. It is under the production of Dreamscape Entertainment.

Daniela of Kadenang Ginto Imparts Tips on How to be a Good Mom

Dimples Romana drew up the lessons she learned as a mother of two kids in the latest read from ABS-CBN Books, “Dimps Tips,” featuring 52 essential life skills every mom needs to know.

The “Kadenang Ginto” actress detailed her parenting and homemaking journey in the book while recommending weekly boot camp activities for moms. “If, like me, you’re constantly struggling, exhausted, confused, trying, lost and broken, this book is for you, momma.”

“Dimps Tips” features four helpful categories—essential recipes, mindful mommy skills, time and financial management skills, and ‘me’ time moments, which Dimples stressed to be all equally important.

The mom of Alonzo and Callie wrote, “We, naturally and willingly, put ourselves last when it comes to family. And that’s because a mother’s heart is selfless.”

However, she said that indulging in small luxuries, allowing yourself to relax, ang giving in to what your heart needs at the moment also help a lot. “Believe me, I am a stronger, better mother when I take care of myself,” she said, identifying eight simple ‘me’ time opportunities to take care of oneself.

Among the 20 essential recipes from Dimples’ kitchen are her salted egg shrimp, chili garlic crab, white tuna pasta, and ginataang santol concoctions. She also included tips on cooking classic Pinoy favorites such as adobo, sinigang, pancit, and sisig.

There are 14 mindful mom skills in “Dimps Tips.” “Mindful motherhood is a great way to set the tone for your home and your family life. The practice of being mindful as a mother and as an individual will help in being more productive in life,” she penned.

The Kapamilya actress also revealed 10 time and money management skills she learned ever since she started her own family in June 2003. Among these are mastering to-do lists and having a long-term calendar with big dreams on it.

In between the life skills the new author shared are her sensible advices for moms, and dads, as well. “Live in the moment. With the rise of social media and excess documentation of each moment we live day by day, we forget to just BE. To be in the moment 100%.”

Learn new skills every week with the book “Dimps Tips” by Dimples Romana, now available in leading bookstores nationwide for only P225. For updates, follow @abscbnpr on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram or visit www.abscbn.com/newsroom.

Powerhouse Tandem of Audie Gemora and Teroy Guzman for REP's The Dresser

Theater fans shouldn’t miss REP’s The Dresser,
running from May 3 to 26 at the Onstage Theater

in Greenbelt 1.

For the third play of its 2019 season, Repertory Philippines takes audiences behind-the-scenes of the theater, exposing its vivid inner workings and hidden secrets. Running from May 3 to 26 at the Onstage Theater in Greenbelt 1, The Dresser is drama at its finest, bringing together brilliant writing, directing, and acting to tell a story about devoting your entire life to your craft.

REP’s production of The Dresser will star none other than legendary veterans Audie Gemora and Teroy Guzman. These two thespians’ experience with Shakespeare make them ideal fits for the layered script, which celebrates classical theater. Sitting in the director’s chair is Loy Arcenas, whose movie musical Ang Larawan, an adaptation of Nick Joaquin’s A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, won Best Picture at the
43rd Metro Manila Film Festival.

A critically acclaimed British play that has been staged on both West End and Broadway, The Dresser has also been adapted into a film starring Anthony Hopkins and Ian McKellen. Written by Academy Award winner Sir Ronald Harwood, the play has a strong pedigree, having been interpreted by the best actors and directors around the world.

Two legendary theater veterans, Teroy Guzman
and Audie Gemora, join forces in The Dresser.

Following Sir, a troubled thespian, and his loyal dresser Norman, The Dresser takes place during a wartime production of King Lear. Sir arrives on set in a delusional state, while Norman does all he can to ensure that the show goes on, much to the disapproval of the company, who have had enough of Sir’s erratic behavior. As the theater fills up and an air-raid commences, Sir steps onstage as Lear while the company crosses its fingers. Meanwhile, Norman and the other characters question whether their dedication to the theater—and even the people they love—is worth the hardship and heartbreak.

Don’t miss Gemora play the gentle Norman to Guzman’s tormented Sir. Joining them in the cast are Justine Narciso as Irene, Jeremy Domingo as Oxenby, Missy Maramara as Her Ladyship, Tami Monsod as Madge, and Jaime Del Mundo as Geoffrey.

After The Dresser’s run, catch The Quest for the Adarna in September. Perfect for kids and kids at heart, this original REP play transforms the beloved Ibong Adarna tale into a colorful English musical.

How "Stranded" the Movie Shows Possibility Beyond Cuddle Weather

Based on the trailer alone, one with foresight would think that the whole duration of the film will be about two strangers unraveling their personal "storms" raging within them which draw them closer to one another as the literal storm ravages the metropolis and they go from trapped in a building to trapped in each others arms. Not really.

Well, only around a third of the film paints this scenario, which goes to show that it is not as predictable as it seems. Arjo Atayde plays Spencer, a yuppie who lives life one day at a time and to make his father proud, he tries a bit to turn his life around by working for his friend as a delivery boy. He runs into Julia, played by Jessy Mendiola, at an office reminiscent of Lazada or Amazon. Julia is an IT expert who is in a relationship but overworks herself since she is too responsible and has the tendency to give in to what other people want.

See, being stranded here is not just about being locked in an office building by an irresponsible guard. Both are stuck in their own ruts that they fail to see until this seemingly life or death situation offers them a new perspective. Sure, it's not a spoiler anymore that the they get out of the deluge with changed feelings towards each other, but they also know how to steer past the wave their instinct and their upbringing takes them, earning the calm after their personal "storm" which give them enough clarity to be with each other not jusy because situation pushes them together or others want it but because they just simply want to.

Stranded is produced by Regal Entertainment Inc. and opens tomorrow April 10 in cinemas nationwide.

MEET THE NEW KID ON THE PAGEANT BLOCK, BIKINING PILIPINAS 2019

Everyone and their grandmother know the Philippines is home to some of the most ardent pageant fans in the world. So, when the people behind Bikining Pilipinas 2019 decided to put up a pageant that would celebrate women with beauty, brains and sex appeal, they hoped the Filipino people would embrace it like they have other pageants.

According to organizers Victor G. Naynes, President and CEO of RV International Talent Management, Events & Productions and Romeo Martin, Co-Founder & Managing Director of RV International Talent Management, Events & Productions, the goal of this pageant is to find a woman who isn’t the least bit shy about strutting her stuff in a swimsuit. They explain there’s a space right now in the Philippine showbiz scene for someone like that.

“May agency kasi ako.
When he says “namin,” he’s referring to the triumvirate composed of himself, his business partner Romeo Martin and showbiz legend Direk Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz.

Sa totoo lang, our original plan was to do a small-scale bikini contest in Boracay. Kaso nung pumasok na yung mga sponsors namin, nag-evolve na ito into a legitimate national pageant. Kaya pinanindigan na namin. Bikining Pilipinas 2019 even has a theme song of its own, composed by the same musician who composed the Binibining Pilipinas one. We were inspired by other pageants, but yung elements na hiniram namin sa kanila, nilagayan pa namin ng sarili naming bali o twist. Kaya this pageant was thought up. Yung winner nito will become a contract artist of my agency and hopefully mapasama siya sa mga shows ni Direk Bobot.”
Victor and his team were pleasantly surprised by the caliber of the girls who auditioned for Bikining Pilipinas 2019. During the auditions, he says they were on the lookout for girls who were more than just pretty faces.

We looked for girls na may curves. ‘Di ba ang goal namin is to find someone who can be a sexy actress? Beauty is also a factor kasi merong iba na OK yung katawan nila, pero yung mukha nila medyo may kulang. So dapat, total package. Masaya naman kami kasi marami kaming nahanap na ganun,” he says.

Details of what will happen on the coronation night are being kept under wraps, but Victor says the program will be similar to the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. However, the Bikining Pilipinas 2019 girls will wear elaborate costumes built around swimsuits, not underwear. The panel of judges will be composed of Direk Bobot, actress Jenny Miller and some of the sponsors. One of the Kapamilya network’s top leading men is also in talks to be a judge.

The 28 aspirants will be whittled down to a Top 15. After that first cut, 10 more will be eliminated, leaving five girls in the running. From the Top 5, only three will move on to the final round. The Top 3 will battle it out to see who will be named second runner-up, first runner-up and Miss Bikining Pilipinas 2019. This year’s titleholder will receive a management contract from RV International, P100,000 in cash, and be first in line for certain opportunities to make it big in showbiz.
Victor hopes Bikining Pilipinas 2019 will become a success. He prays that Filipino pageant fans will embrace the new kid on the pageant block so they can give one fun, fearless female the opportunity of a lifetime, year after year.

“If Bikining Pilipinas 2019 becomes successful, we plan to do it again and again,” he says.

The Bikining Pilipinas 2019 Coronation Night will take place on May 1, 2019. It will be held at The Island, Uptown BGC at 6:00 PM. For ticket inquiries, call 0923-9989479 or 0945-8440658.

PHOTOS by Danny Vibas
WORDS by Trixie Dauz and Danny Vibas

GILLIAN VICENCIO is the girl to watch in Star Cinema's 'Eerie'! In fact, in a way, she plays the title role because her name in the film is "Eri," the first victim of a mysterious serial killer of sort in the psycho-horror film topbilled by Charo Santos-Concio and Bea Alonzo.

During Kapamilya Confessions, she admitted that given the chance to choose a teleserye she'd like to be part of, she'd choose Kadenang Ginto. "No, hindi siya nakakakaintimidate makawork. Nung una kong nameet si Ma'am Charo, siya yung nag-approach sa 'kin then kinamusta niya ako, ganun...kinilala niya ako," she shared when a viewer asked her what's it like to work with the face of MMK who's also a Kapamilya head.

This is actually her first film. We caught her on cam in various moods and poses in a bloggers' conference last Friday noon (March 29) at Star Cinema's special preview room.

"Eerie" is now showing nationwide. It's directed by the acclaimed Young filmmaker Mikhail Red

Gillian Vicencio is so lovely and bubbly in person but lonely and disturbed in Star Cinema's now-showing film "Eerie" topbilled by Charo Santos as an abusive nun and by Bea Alonzo as a caring and clairvoyant guidance counselor in an all-girls school.
