THEATER SNEAK PEEK: A MINI-REVIEW OF "Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-Araw"

Article by Nina Gem P. (Guest Contributor)

Want to see a modern Shakespeare? Yes, you can. Presenting "Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-Araw", a lively interpretation of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream. The organic shift from one genre to another was clear -from mystery to comedy and drama. The Filipino script gave more meaning to the play for Filipino audience.

Alternating the language from Shakespeare English to Filipino and back again was very crucial for the audience to see the divide between light comedy and dark comedy. Seasoned actors like Audie Gemora and Jackielou Blanco made the play interesting with their nuanced performances. While the director Carlos Siguion-Reyna took the roller coaster of emotions of the confused lovers to a whole new level, Puck was specially enchanting with his delivery of lines and he stood out.

The play itself brings us to chaos of regular life, of lovers' romance and disagreement and if there will be a sweet ending for all of them.

Watch and see how it unfolds. The show has a limited run in CCP until Oct. 16. For tickets, you may contact Ticketworld at 891-9999.
