Comedy queen Ai-Ai delas Alas got her break via Ang Tanging Ina (2003) where she got to show her versatility by handling dramatic and comedic scenes with gusto. In D'Ninang, which is a movie centering on an unconventional family setup, she will get to do this again.
This is an exciting material for the Cinemalaya 2018 Best Actress for School Bus as she gets to conjure up a new characterization for a "godmother" who oversees thieves and trickster. Ai-Ai's first movie of the year also happens to be Regal Entertainment Inc.'s opening salvo for 2020.
It can be recalled that Ai-Ai's last movie with Regal was the highly successful film Our Mighty Yaya (2017). The comedienne has already proved her thespic abilities beyond aside from being a box office success when she also bagged several international acting awards for Area (2016).
In D'Ninang, Ai-Ai portrays a pickpocket with a heart of gold.
While it is apparent that her character is guilty of petty crimes, Ninang extends help to her community, where she appears to be everybody's godmother, thus they refer to her as Ninang.
Akin to a female version of Robin Hood, she takes a couple of proteges, also pickpockets (Angel Guardian and Kiray Celis), under her wing.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when her long-lost daughter Mikhai (Kisses Delavin), decided to live with her. Unaware of her mom's illegal activities, her daughter is adamant in pursuing a career that will enable her to punish crooks.
Will their love for each other prevail when the mother and her daughter learn more about each other, including their flaws?
D'Ninang is a heartwarming story about human relationships and one's struggles to keep the goodness in her heart despite hardships in life.
With a superb cast headed by the "Comedy Queen" herself, D'Ninang is will appeal to viewers craving for a heartwarming family comedy story and is poised to create a stir at the box office.
Aside from the above mentioned cast members, it also stars Joey Marquez, McCoy de Leon, Kelvin Miranda, and Lou Veloso.
Directed by GB Sampedro, this will open on January 22, 2020 in cinemas nationwide.
