CCP CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF GAWAD CCP PARA SA ALTERNATIBONG PELIKULA AT VIDEO

THE Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video, the longest-running independent film and video competition in Asia, celebrates 30 years of discovering and developing cinematic talents in the country.

Established in 1987, the Gawad Alternatibo annually cites the best efforts of Filipino filmmakers in four categories – Animation, Experimental, Documentary and Short Feature. The 30th edition of the film and video competition will run on August 4 to 6, 2018 at the Tanghalang Manuel Conde.

On August 4, catch the Animation Program A at 3:30pm; Documentary Program A, at 6:15pm.

Short Feature Category entries are divided into seven groups. The first three groups of the Short Feature Program will be shown on August 4, starting with Short Feature Program A at 10am; Short Feature Program B, at 12:45pm; Short Feature Program C at 9pm.

Animation Program B will be screened on August 5, 3:30pm; Documentary Program B, which will run on August 5, at 12:45pm; Experimental Program A will be on August 5,
at 6:15pm. Short Feature screening continues with Short Feature Program D on August 5, at 10am, followed by Short Feature Program E at 9pm.

Feature Program G at 6:15pm.

There will also be an exhibition that highlights the 30 year history of CCP Gawad Alternatibo, on view from August 3 to September 23, at the CCP Main Gallery.

The awarding and closing ceremony will be on August 6, 8:30pm, at Tanghalang Manuel Conde. Screenings of the Gawad Alternatibo films and videos is free to the public, on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Ika-30 Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video is part of the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, happening on August 3 to 12, at the CCP theaters

Alex Gonzaga and Melai Cantiveros’ trending OOTD got netizens guessing who’s wearing bagong bili o bagong laba

What’s the worst thing that can happen when you are wearing your nicest OOTD? For showbiz stars like Alex Gonzaga and Melai Cantiveros, it’s bumping into each other, wearing exactly the same outfit and wondering who actually wore it better. But since these two ladies are not going to settle the score just like that, they both asked the bigger, more interesting question—are the outfits bagong bili or bagong laba?

The question confused the minds of everyone, going viral on social media as fellow momshies weighed in and argued whether their idol’s outfits was bagong bili or bagong laba. But even as the arguments rocked social media, no one could figure out the answer as both the outfits of Alex Gonzaga and Melai Cantiveros looked like new.

To solve the great mystery once and for all, Tide hosted “Bagong Bili o Bagong Laba Fashion Walk-Off”, an interactive fashion show last July 31 at White Space, Makati. Excited guests took part in a game that proved how brand new whites look no different from clothes washed with Tide.

Kicking off the fashion show were Luis Manzano and the Solomon brothers,  and celebrity kids Awra Briguela, and Mela Francisco. After all the models strutted to confuse the crowd even more. Alex and Melai graced the stage with a grand walk off and cheered on the audience to make their best guess --  “Bagong Bili or Bagong Laba?”.

Ending the show was a grand reveal of the models removing their tags to see who wore the bagong laba and the bagong bili outfits – astounding everyone in the audience because there was no difference in the whiteness of the clothes that the models wore!

“Sobrang nagulat ako sa fact na ako pala may suot ng bagong laba! As in wow, nakakagulat talaga kasi for me, feeling ko bagong bili suot ko! Totoo talaga na sa isang laba, mukhang bago, kapag Tide,” said Alex, whose bagong laba clothes definitely look brand new.

Melai, who turns out to have been wearing the brand new outfit, added that “Amazing ang whitening powers ng Tide. From now on, hindi na talaga kailangan bumili parati ng bagong damit para mag mukhang bongga ang outfits mo. With Tide, para ka na ring nakasuot ng bago.”

Just like everyone in the audience, it’s hard to tell the difference between bagong bili and bagong laba with Tide.

Dakip is a little boy who lives with his parents – Day and Ric – inside Camp Delgado, a makeshift prison inside a military camp for both rebels and criminals. Day does her best to shelter the child from the harsh realities of their life. She tells stories about an enchantress named Liway, with songs and imagination to help keep her boy from trauma. However, at the tail end of the Martial Law, her own dark past catches up on her and the lives of the detainees become increasingly difficult. She is confronted with the cruel possibility that the best interest of her child means never seeing her again. This is based on a true story.

Love takes on all forms on GMA Network’s newest primetimes series ‘Onanay’

Beginning August 6, love takes on all forms as GMA Network debuts its newest heart-warming primetime series, Onanay.

Onanay tells the unique story of Onay, a woman born with Achondroplasia or a bone growth disorder which impeded her growth. Because of this, she is often the subject of ridicule but she chooses to remain positive in life. She gave birth to two beautiful daughters—Maila and Natalie—who cannot be more different from one another. Despite a tragedy and traumatizing events, Onay’s motherly love remains pure and unconditional, the way every mother is to her child. 

The series introduces new Kapuso Jo Berry, who takes on the role of Onay. Despite her condition, she is loving, kind, warm towards everyone, and chooses to always look at the brighter side of things.

Young and talented Kapuso actresses Mikee Quintos and Kate Valdez join together once more in headlining this drama as siblings Maila and Natalie, daughters of Onay.

Maila is a perfectly cheerful and obedient daughter who is willing to stand up to anyone who makes fun of her mother. She dreams of graduating and giving her family a comfortable life.

Natalie, on the other hand, is spoiled, arrogant, and thinks highly of herself. She is ashamed of her mother’s physical appearance, which is why she often takes out her frustration and anger on Onay.

The show also features the very special participation of Superstar Ms. Nora Aunor as Nelia, Onay’s supportive mother who will do anything for her child.

Joining them to play an equally important role is Ms. Cherie Gil as Helena, a former beauty queen and now a wealthy owner of an online fashion magazine. She is also Onay’s mother-in-law who will make her and Nelia’s life miserable.

Completing the powerhouse cast are Gardo Versoza as Dante, Nelia’s younger brother who will treat Maila as his own daughter; Wendell Ramos as Lucas, a rich and careless man who used to be an alcohol and drug addict who will later on play an important role in Onay’s life; Rochelle Pangilinan as Sally, Onay’s childhood friend who works at a beauty salon and is very supportive and endeared to Maila; Vaness Del Moral as Imelda, Lucas’ jealous and possessive wife; Enrico Cuenca as Oliver, a handsome school jock who will fall for Maila; and special guest Adrian Alandy as Elvin, the loving and responsible husband of Onay who fell in love with her because of her beautiful innate qualities.

Onanay is set to touch the hearts of viewers by showcasing the immeasurable power of love and how there is nothing that a mother wouldn’t do for her child.

Iginiit niya ito na hindi lang ito tungkol sa sweldo ngunit sa kawalan ng trabaho dito na fit sa field of expertise ng isang fresh graduate ng isang kursong hindi common. "Kung minsan kasi, yung mga naghahanap ng trabaho, hindi pa fit dun sa hinahanap na trabaho dahil wala pa sila nung skill, kaya kailangan natin iyan sa mga training institution, mga TESDA, STI, at iba pa."

RESTORED VERSION of John and Marsha '85 Took 4,300 Man Hours to Restore!

July 26, 2018 marked 90 years and a day after the Philippines’ King of Comedy, Dolphy had been born. And it is most fitting that it also be a date for premiere night of a digitally restored and remastered version of the late comedy king’s movie, John en Marsha ’85 Sa Probinsiya, shown at Cinema Centenario.

John en Marsha is the longest-running sitcom television series which run for 17 years from 1973 to 1990 while John en Marsha ’85 Sa Probinsiya was the seventh movie spawned by the series. The movie tells the story of how the Puruntong clan head to the province after John’s (Dolphy) aunt became bed-ridden thus placing a family out of their comfort zone and into the mundane country life.

This special screening was attended by the 3 remaining members of the main cast, namely: Evelyn 'Matutina' Bontogon-Guerrero, Madel de Leon and the Diamond Star, Maricel Soriano. Also in attendance are Ronnie Quizon and Eric Quizon.

Leo Katigbak, head of ABS-CBN Film Restoration Project, spoke passionately about their ongoing projects and more so about their intention of restoring 10 more Dolphy movies down the line. He says that the most people have forgotten or don’t know who and why Dolphy is the King of Comedy and by screening this movie would let one remember. He adds further that by restoring old Filipino films could we gain insight into the brilliance and greatness of the writers, producers, directors, and actors of the past.

The movie, John en Marsha ’85 Sa Probinsiya, took 4300 man hours to restore. The quality, according to Katigbak, “…is not as clear as a film that was shot yesterday but for a 30 year old film, the colors are still intact and after watching it, it just made me smile.”

ABS-CBN Film Restoration Project says that their next digitally restored film would be Omeng Satanasia and they are hoping to have it shown on the big screen by October.
