MANILA,
Philippines, February 8, 2017 – The Film Development Council of the Philippines
(FDCP) – Cinematheque Centre Manila invites everyone to SINING SINTA, a film and art exhibit featuring the works and
creations of local artists and film makers, which runs from February 8 to 15,
2017 at the FDCP. Sining Sinta will
simultaneously happen in three different Cinematheque Centres all over the
Philippines: Manila, Ilo-Ilo, and Davao.
Sining Sinta features the
artworks of visual artists Alex Salvador, Mong, Bowie Linga, Ceb Cablar, Chino
Villagracia, and Danielle Alelxandre, among others. Most of the artworks are up
for sale and some has already been sold during the gala night. The exhibit is
the perfect of past and present elements and emotions using conventional and
unconventional themes, materials, and genre. The artworks carry different
messages that you surely shouldn’t miss.
For the launch,
the Cinematheque sponsored a screening of “Ang Babae sa Likod ng Mambabatok
(2012),” a documentary about the struggle of the Kalinga mambabatok (tattoo artist), Whang-od, as the last Mambabatok. Whang-od has not married,
and according to tradition, tattooing has to be inherited through lineage. During
the shooting this documentary, Whang-od was still in good health and trains her
grandniece, Grace Palican. Whang-od believes that if someone outside the
bloodline does the tattoo, it will get infected (Lowe, 2014). At the age of 99,
Whang-od’s health has already been deteriorating, showing signs of pneumonia as
shared by tourist Miming Leung Yin Baker on her Facebook account
(pinoytrending.altervista.org).
